Since the conception of this blog last year, I haven’t posted anything about the design projects that I do, mainly because the nature of these projects are always Work In Progress. I’m glad to say that this project, the Zoom Student Film Festival Identity Design of 2010, is finally nearing its completion, one that I have been working on since October 2009.
So, a little history and background: Zoom Student Film Festival (Zoom for short) is an annual film event with the purpose of exhibiting the work of high school students, funded and hosted by Earl Haig Secondary School in Toronto, Canada since 1997. In the early years of the festival, submissions of films were only limited to Earl Haig students, but over the years the festival gradually began accepting citywide and, since this year, international film submissions to be screened on the night of the festival.
This year’s theme is “Democracy In Motion”, expressing the freedom of speech and of human rights through film, featuring the color green. The night of the festival is May 12th at 7:30PM EST at Bloor Cinema, and I’ll be sure to make post about it.
Inspired by the work of Saul Bass, the logo symbolizes the collective efforts of many different people, with different backgrounds or social status, coming together to put democracy into motion. As for the green wristbands, they were personally requested by the producer to be added to the final design, presumably for personal reasons.
